Chantilly Lace: Gen 1 – Chapter 1

Chantilly Lace: I wonder where it came from?

Vanilla: Lacey?! Lacey dear!? Where are you?

Chantilly Lace: In my room, mother!

Vanilla: Oh, Lacey, thank goodness. I thought I heard someone at the door. You did not answer it, did you?

Chantilly Lace: There was no one there.

Vanilla: Lacey, I’ve told you many times. Do not answer the door!

Chantilly Lace: Nothing happened. It’s fine.

Vanilla: Yes, but something could have happened.

Chantilly Lace: *sigh* It didn’t, so can we drop it?

Vanilla: What is that?

Chantilly Lace: Huh?

Vanilla: That vase. Where did it com from?

Chantilly Lace: I don’t know. It was at the door when I opened it.

Vanilla: Well, please get rid of it.

Chantilly Lace: What? Why?!

Vanilla: It’s probably covered in germs.

Chantilly Lace: Mother, it’s harmless. Please can I keep it?

Vanilla: Very well, but throw out that hideous flower.

Chantilly Lace: It will die in a few days. I’ll throw it out then.

Vanilla: If you insist.

Vanilla: Listen, sweetie, I really dislike the way we left things earlier. I wish there was another way, I do.

Chantilly Lace: You could let me go to school with the other kids.

Vanilla: No. Absolutely not.

Chantilly Lace: *groan*

Vanilla: But I will think of something.

Chantilly Lace: Sure. Whatever. I’m going to bed.

Vanilla: Goodnight, dear. We can discuss this more in the morning.

Vanilla: Hi, yes, I’m calling about your ad in the paper?

Vanilla: Yes, I’m very interested, but I do have one question. How much could I offer for you to deliver it?

Vanilla: Yes, that will be fine. The address, is 4508, Linen Lane. In Fondant Fields, yes.

Vanilla: Okay, wonderful. Thank you. I’ll see you around noon.

Vanilla: Lacey!? Can you come in here please?

Chantilly Lace: What is it, mother? Oh… is this-

Vanilla: For you? Yes. The man delivered it just a little while ago.

Chantilly Lace: You bought me a computer?

Vanilla: Yes. I’ve called someone out to set it up. It should be ready to use in a day or so.

Chantilly Lace: I don’t know what to say.

Vanilla: I hope you like it. What better way to see the world with out being in it.

Chantilly Lace: I suppose it is better than nothing. Thank you, mother.

Vanilla: Of course dear. Now, it’s nearly 12:30. Please prepare for lessons.

The installer had his day’s backwards, so we were connected to the online world by late afternoon. I, of course, jumped on immediately. This was the most exciting thing to happen to my world in like ever…

Chantilly Lace: Hmmm let’s see… choose a username.

Chantilly Lace: Painting Rainbows.

Chantilly Lace: Make sure there are no spaces… Okay.

Chantilly Lace: PaintingRainbows.

Chantilly Lace: That name is already taken. Hmmm…

Chantilly Lace: PaintingRainbows9

Chantilly Lace: Eeee it worked!

As soon as I was signed in, I started researching EVERYTHING. Geography, art, pop culture, you name it!! So many photos of art! It was as if I’d died and gone to information heaven. I spent almost an entire day searching. Soaking in every last drop knowledge.

It was incredible.

My interest quickly grew to include local information. Neighboring towns and cities. We were only a few hours from the coast! Not that I was interested in the ocean. Sugar Valley, a small sea side town. Home of the iconic Peppermint Pier and Sugar Pepper memorial. Sweetness, was it beautiful! Buildings of every color lined the streets in bright patterns. Pink! Green! Blue! Light blue! Dark blue! Turquoise! It was a painter’s dream town.

Sugar Valley… that sounded so familiar. Then it dawned on me. That’s where IT happened. The accident that nearly killed me and took my father away from us.

I’ll admit that put a small downer on it’s appeal, but everything was so pretty, it was hard not to be enamored.

Soon I found a site pertaining to a local Sugar Valley high school. Huckleberry High. Home to nearly 1,150 students. So many peers!

I tried to look up information on Fondant Fields schools, but apparently we had yet to step into the technological era, so back to HBHS I went! There were schedules for rallies and football games. An extensive backstory on their mascot and then right at the bottom of the page, there was a link to the student chat room.

Could I actually talk to other kids my age? Was it possible to get in as a non student?

Prologue – Part 18

Turq: Lo Buddy? It’s Turq. Can we talk? Your aunt is worried about you.

Merlot: Go away, Turq.

Turq: Dude. It’s been two years. It’s time to let her go. It’s time to move on with your life.

Merlot: Don’t have one anymore. Not without her.

Turq: You’ve been moping around since it happened, you gotta snap out of this, man.

Merlot: Do you know what today is?

Turq: No.

Merlot: It was two years ago today…. So why don’t you cut me some slack and leave.

Turq: No man, I can’t do that. *sigh* I’ll be right back.

Turq: Yeah, it’s me. I’m gonna have to cancel tonight.

Turq: I know what I said, but a blind date is not high on my priority list at the moment.

Turq: I get it. I get it. Tell this Fairy person, I’m sure she is very nice, but she’ll have to go out with someone else.

Turq: Yeah, Okay. Thanks. See ya later.

Victoria: How is he?

Turq: He won’t talk to me. He won’t answer his aunt’s calls. When was the last time he left the room?

Victoria: I manage to drag him out for a meal now and then, but he’s inconsolable.

Turq: Don’t know what to do. Not sure he will ever pull out of this.

Victoria: Let me try.

Turq: *sigh* Sure, yeah.

Victoria: Why don’t you go home for the evening. I’ll make sure he gets a hot meal.

Turq: You sure?

Victoria: Yes.

Turq: I really could use some sleep. Been worried about his berry butt for far too long now.

Victoria: I know.

Victoria: Merlot honey, this is important. I need you to talk to me.

Merlot: What’s the point. What’s the point in anything? I ruined everything. I destroyed our life. It was going to be perfect, we were going to have a family. All because I wanted her to drink that stupid nectar.

Victoria: You have to stop blaming yourself.

Merlot: I can’t. I just can’t. I would do anything to take it back. Anything.

Victoria: *heavy sigh* I know I am going to regret this… Merlot. I think you should come with me.

Merlot: What is that thing? <———— Clickety Click click! (No pictures anymore but it’s easy to understand what’s goin on.)

Victoria: This… belonged to my father. It’s something he and I worked on for several years. Though he could never get it working… I was the only one who could ever get it up and running. Tried to tell him, but we all know how well he listened to me…”

Merlot: Alright…

Victoria: I shouldn’t be showing you this. I really shouldn’t. Merlot. This is a machine, you would call it a time machine, but that is only the crude definition. There is so much more to this.

Merlot: A time machine?

Victoria: Yes.

Merlot: And you are showing me this because…

Victoria: Merlot, if you feel that there has been a mistake, that Lacey’s life is worth more than what she was given, I can send you back.

Merlot: You would do that? For me?

Victoria: Has there ever been anything yet that I won’t do you for you?

Merlot: What do I do?

Victoria: Whoa whoa, you are getting a hold of yourself here. This is incredibly dangerous and there are absolutely no guarantees it will work. Or if it does work, there is no guarantee that it won’t completely alter everything. It’s called the butterfly effect. The whole world could cease to be as we know it, but if you feel, truly feel there has been a mistake. I will do this for you. The choice is yours.

Merlot: So if I went back to that night… the night we met.

Victoria: You could prevent it from ever happening.

Merlot: But then she and I would never know each other.

Victoria: Perhaps, but she would be alive.

Victoria: I… I need a moment to think.

Merlot: Take all the time you need.

Merlot: Lacey baby, it’s me. I- I don’t know what to do here. I miss you so much, but do I have the right to tempt fate. To take back the wrongs in this world? I know I said I would do anything, but this? Is it really up to me to make a decision like this? For my own selfish reasons? Maybe… I am the one who disrupted things by breaking into your house that night and this will put the world back into balance. I don’t know… I really hope you will forgive me one day. If all works to plan, it will be as if we never met, but I promise, there is no way I could ever forget you, not in this lifetime, or the next. I love you, and I always will.

Victoria: Have you made your decision?

Merlot: I have. Send me back. I need to fix this.

Victoria: Very well.

Victoria: It’s almost ready. Now, Merlot, try to work as quickly as you can. The less time you spend in the past the better.

Merlot: Okay.

Victoria: And it’s imperative that NO ONE sees you. The consequences would be even worse than what we are already doing.

Merlot: Right. Sure. I’ve got it.

Victoria: Good. I think we’re ready.

Merlot: What happens after?

Victoria: If all works to plan, you will simply cease to exist. Only your foot prints will be left behind.

Merlot: *sigh*

Victoria: Try not to leave any foot prints.

* Tap Tap Tap *

Chantilly Lace: Hello? Is someone there?

Turq: Did you see Persephone today?”

Merlot: No? Why?

Turq: She was looking for you.

Merlot: No, didn’t see her at all today. Oh, hang on. Maybe that’s her now.

Turq: Ooooooooooo!

Merlot: Hush…

Merlot: Huh…

Turq: What is it?

Merlot: Emergency at home. Weird.

Turq: Your aunt?

Merlot: I guess. I don’t recognize this number… and she’s not answering. I better go home and check on her.

Turq: You want me to come?

Merlot: Nah, I’ll be fine. See you at school.

Turq: Yeah. See ya.

Prologue – Part 17

Jammy: Hello, Merlot, I’m Dr. Sammich. How did you know, Chantilly Lace?

Merlot: She was my… fiance.

Jammy: Oh my, oh dear. I’m afraid there was nothing we could do for her. The injuries were too severe.

Merlot: She said she was fine… I thought she was fine.

Jammy: Yes, well, outwardly there wasn’t much to see, but she must have hit her head on something under the water. You said she fell in?

Merlot: Only for a few seconds.

Jammy: Sometime’s that is all it takes. Was she drinking?

Merlot: *sigh* Yes.

Jammy: Probably why she didn’t feel it. I hope it comforts you to know she most likely did not suffer. Once she feel asleep, she just drifted away. I’m so sorry for your loss. You did what you could.

Jammy: These things happen.

Merlot: It was all my fault! I never should have forced her to go there!

Jammy: It’s called an accident for a reason.

Merlot: You don’t understand! She had plans! Dreams! She was supposed to be a mother! I took that all away from her!

Jammy: No, you didn’t. This wasn’t your fault. It was an unfortunate accident. They happen all the time. Sadly I see them far too often. Why don’t you go home. Get some rest. Please? Would you like me to call someone?

Merlot: No, I can’t go home. Not yet.

Merlot: Lacey baby, give me the strength to do this.

Vanilla: Get. Out.

Merlot: Mrs. Chiffon, I’m so sorry.

Vanilla: No, you don’t get to say that. I told you this would happen! I told you!

Merlot: You did and I didn’t listen.

Vanilla: Get out of my house! Murderer!

*muffled wailing*

Victoria: Oh, Merlot.

Merlot: She’s gone, Vic. What have I done? I only invited her there so we could start our new chapter by closing the old one. I was stupid. I should have known better.

Victoria: Don’t blame yourself. It was an accident.

Merlot: I went to see her mother. She asked me not to come and there is nothing I can do. If we were married…

Victoria: It’s okay.

Merlot: No, it’s not. My life is over. She was everything good in my world and-

Victoria: Shhhh… it’s time to rest now.

A few days later…

Merlot: Hey Lace, it’s me. I’m not sure if you’re all that happy to see me, but here I am. Your mother said I wasn’t allowed, but as usual, I didn’t listen. I think I owe you an apology. *sigh* I messed up Lace. I never should have…This is all my fault! I never should have taken you there!

Merlot: If it was anyone’s fault it’s mine.

Merlot: But I guess it’s a little late to start throwing blame around. You’re gone and I miss you so much. I can hardly breathe. You know better than anyone I’m no good at this sort of thing. I brought these for you. Lillies, your favorite.

Merlot: This is too hard, angel. I can’t do it. I can’t. I need you, and I always have. I have no idea what will happen now. It was supposed to be you and me against the world, and now it’s not. I’m all alone again. I just hope you’re happy there, where ever there is. I love you, Lace, and I know it probably won’t mean much, but I swear to you right here and now I will never forget you. I couldn’t if I tried, and if I make it through this, it’s only because you’d want me to.

Merlot: But I don’t care anymore, I don’t. Life is pretty pointless without you. I’m so sorry, Lace. I hope you can forgive me. Maybe one day I’ll forgive myself. Don’t count on that anytime soon.

Prologue – Part 16

Everything in our world was perfect…

But how long can perfection truly last…

Merlot: I’m taking you out today.

Lace: Oh? Where are we off to?

Merlot: Don’t say no yet.

Lace: Oh…

Merlot: I promise, you’ll never have to leave the beach. You just gotta trust me. It will be beautiful and fun and we’ll be just far enough away that you can appreciate the waves without feeling a drop of water. Please?! I swear I have a good reason.

Lace: It better be a VERY good reason.

Merlot: It is.

Lace: Okay, but just this once.

Merlot: I swear it. Just this once.

Merlot: How’s the burger, darlin?

Lace: Delicious! I bet it would taste even better at our dining table.

Merlot: I’m sure it would, but you gotta admit, this isn’t so bad. Is it?

Lace: No, it’s kinda nice actually.

Merlot: How about a photo?

Chantilly Lace: Good idea, remember this day, because it is never happening again.

Merlot: Okay… so the real reason  I brought you out here.

Chantilly Lace: I knew you were up to something.

Merlot: Lace, standing next to the ocean, I know you’re scared, but by coming here, you’ve conquered that fear. If you can do it, so can I.

Chantilly Lace: Merlot? Are you doing, what I think you’re doing?

Merlot: From the moment we met, I knew there was something special about you, and even though I know I probably scared you half to death.

Chantilly Lace: *giggle*

Merlot: Breaking into your house is one of the greatest things to ever happen to me. You make me feel things, and do things that I can hardly comprehend. It feels like I have known you forever, even though it has been only a few short years. This is probably the corniest thing I have ever said, but you have shown me a side of myself that I never knew existed. I don’t think it would, if it weren’t for you. I love you, Lace. With every shred of my heart.

Merlot: So would you permit this man, to take your hand, just so he knows you will be with him always?

Chantilly Lace: Yes, yes, yes!

Merlot: I brought some aged nectar. Care to join me for a glass?

Chantilly Lace: I’ve never had nectar before. Maybe I shouldn’t.

Merlot: Just a glass. You’ll love it, trust me.

Several glasses later…

Chantilly Lace: I dedicate thish one to you, ocean! Ya big shalty gal! WHY CAN’T WE BE FRIENDS! WHY CAN’T WE BE FRIENDS! WHY CAN’T WE BE FRIEEEEENDS!!!

Merlot: Hahahaha!!

Chantilly Lace: I love you. I love you! I love you! I love you!

Merlot: Hahaha! I love you too, darlin, but I think you might have had a little too much of the nectar.

Chantilly Lace: What?! More like not enough! A yum yum yum!

Merlot: Yup definitely too much…

Chantilly Lace: You know, you are shilly!” You are perfect and you don’t even know it.

Merlot: I am not perfect.

Chantilly Lace: Oh yes you are! You make me feel things too! Things that I never thought I’d feel.

Merlot: Oh yeah? Like what?

Chantilly Lace: Like… you make me not afraid anymore! I could run into the ocean right now, and wouldn’t be scared!!

Merlot: Huh?

Merlot: Lace, come back!

\

Merlot: Lacey? Baby? Are you alright? Lace? Wake up?

Chantilly Lace: Definitely… too… much nectar.

Merlot: Are you alright? Do you need to go to the hospital?

Chantilly Lace: No. I’m fine, I just… need… to catch my breath.

Merlot: Don’t you ever do that again!

Chantilly Lace: I’m sorry. It was a lot deeper than it looked.

Chantilly Lace: Oops, I missed.

Merlot: You can kiss me later, okay? In fact, maybe we should go home.

Chantilly Lace: Mmmnooo it’s so beautiful here, I want to stay, with you. With youuuuuuu~

Merlot: Yes, but I think we should get you home.

Chantilly Lace: I’m fine. I’m just sleepy…. Tell me a story.

Merlot: A story?

Chantilly Lace: Yes.

Merlot: I don’t know any stories.

Chantilly Lace: Ohhhhhhh-wah.

Chantilly Lace: What do you think our family will look like? Will we have boys? Girls? Maybe three of each!

Merlot: Maybe, I don’t know…. I see a girl, with your beautiful complexion and my hair. She looks just like you. She even has your diamond eyes.

Chantilly Lace: Oooo she is going to be beautiful, but I bet she has your eyes. Dark and mysterious, like you.

Merlot: *Heh*

Chantilly Lace: Merlot?”

Merlot: Yes?

Chantilly Lace: Make up a story. About our princess. Pleaseeeee.

Merlot: Alright, but I am not a storyteller. You have been warned.

Merlot: Once upon a time, there was little girl, who lived in a castle far far away. This little girl was no ordinary girl, she was a princess, trapped away from the world. Her mother tried to keep her from the common folk, but some how one lonely soul was able to break his way through. Stumbling across her kingdom he fell for the princess instantly. Many days and night were fought for the young man to keep her hand, but on one not so special day, the princess came to him in the cover of moonlight. Her bright eyes glowing in its rays, they vowed to one another that they would be together forever, in this life time and all the others that would follow. Someday, somehow, they would find each other, no matter what the obstacle. Their vow was very powerful, and together they created a monument to their love. A child born of beauty and heart, who would forever be theirs to cherish…

Merlot: Oh! Shooting star! Did you see that?

Merlot: Lace?

Merlot: Lacey? Angel? Baby come back to me. You gotta wake up.

Merlot: Help! Please someone! Help us!

Merlot: NOOOOOOO Please berry NOO!!!

Merlot: OH BERRY NOOOOO!”

Merlot: Lacey, please come back to me! Please!? I need you! I can’t make it without you! You can’t do this!? What about our princess! Lace?!?!?!

And just like that… she was gone.

Prologue – Part 15

Merlot: Lace?

Chantilly Lace: What have I done, Merlot? I made a horrible mistake.

Merlot: Don’t say that.

Chantilly Lace: I’m putting you and your family in danger. I shouldn’t be here. It’s not right. If something were to happen to you, I –

Merlot: Hey. Don’t talk like that. Nothing is going to happen to me. You’re safe here. She can’t hurt you any more.

Chantilly Lace: That’s just the thing. She never really hurt me. She treated me like a mother should, except I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere. She loves me. I know she does and I am all she has left, but living without you. I just can’t do it. I don’t want to.

Merlot: And you don’t have to….I love you, Lace. It’s me and you now, together.

It took a while for things to settle down. Merlot was under pretty heavy surveillance. He sent messages when he could, but it took nearly six months before the police decided I didn’t want to be found. I had imagined it taking longer, but I guess a teenage run away was not high on their priority list. It almost seemed like my mother had called off the search herself. Unfortunately there was no way to know sure. All I knew was my nightmare was over.

And everything had lead up to this moment.

Merlot: Am I glad to see that face.

Chantilly Lace: I thought I’d never see it again.

Merlot: How are you?

Chantilly Lace: I’m good… I need to talk to you about something though.

Merlot: Of course. Nothing I want more than to hear your voice right now.

Chantilly Lace: So you ready for a weird story?

Merlot: Oh, berry yes. Please.

Chantilly Lace: Okay… but first. How much do you know about Victoria’s father?

Merlot: Not that much really. I know he got himself in trouble back when Vic was just a kid. She hasn’t seen him since.

Chantilly Lace: Well, I think I know why he was arrested.

Merlot: Oh?

Chantilly Lace: So the other day, Victoria disappeared for hours! I called for her all over the house, but couldn’t find any trace. It seemed rather odd, since anytime she went into town, she’d let me know. So anyways, I found myself near the downstairs closet. Seemed ordinary enough, but for some reason the door was slightly ajar and I could hear a strange humming.

Merlot: Humming?

Chantilly Lace: Yeah! I opened the closet and… did you know there was a staircase in there?

Merlot: Stairs? Below the house?

Chantilly Lace: Oh it gets better.

Chantilly Lace: There is an entire lab down there!

Merlot: What?!

Chantilly Lace: Test tubes and all kinds of equipment! Merlot, I think her father was some sort of evil scientist.

Merlot: I’ve spent half my childhood in that house, how have I never seen anything like that?

Chantilly Lace: I have the answer to that too. When I couldn’t get inside, I went back upstairs, hoping Victoria wouldn’t find me. I closed the closet door. As soon as it closed, I could hear a faint clicking sound and suddenly the humming faded away.

Merlot: Weird.

Chantilly Lace: I told you! So to ease my curiosity, I opened the closet again and the stairs were gone. It was just a closet! What do you suppose she does down there?

Merlot: I honestly have no idea.

Chantilly Lace: Fascinating right?!

Merlot: That’s one word for it.

Chantilly Lace: Your sister is like the coolest person ever! All her little secrets hidden in this house.

Merlot: Do you think we should ask her about it?

Chantilly Lace: No, probably not a good idea.

Merlot: Wanna take a dip in the pool?

Chantilly Lace: I think you know the answer to that.

Merlot: Oh, glob, Lace, I’m sorry. That was… dumb.

Chantilly Lace: It’s okay. It does sound nice, but I just can’t. Water, you know?

Merlot: Yeah, stupid me.

Chantilly Lace: I have a better idea.

Chantilly Lace: I used to stare up at the stars, dreaming of it would be like to be free. It used to be my favorite time of day… or night rather. I thought nothing could surpass the feeling of freedom I felt watching the midnight clouds floating over the moon, but sharing the stars with you is everything and so much more.

Merlot: That may be the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me.

Chantilly Lace: Did I charm the charmer?

Merlot: You most definitely did.

Prologue – Part 14

Chantilly Lace: I hope you’re happy. There goes the only person who loves me.

Vanilla: Stop being so melodramatic. You’ll forget him by tomorrow. I mean, just look at him. The boy is no good.

Chantilly Lace: What is that supposed to mean?

Vanilla: You know exactly what I mean.

Chantilly Lace: You are disgusting.

Vanilla: And I’m also your mother. So while you live in my house, you will obey my rules.

Chantilly Lace: Fine.

Vanilla: Lacey!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

*SLAM*

*CLICK*

Vanilla: Chantilly Lace Chiffon, open this door now!!

Merlot: Lace?!

Chantilly Lace: Drive! Go! Go!

Merlot: Right, okay!

Victoria: Merlot?

Merlot: Can we come in?

Victoria: How is she?

Merlot: She’s resting… Berry, you should have seen it, Vic. I think her mother and your father could tie for parent of the year.

Victoria: That’s pretty bad.

Merlot: It was. *sigh* I have no idea what we are supposed to do now. Her mother probably has the entire FFPD after us.

Merlot: I know you and I are still mending things… I have no one else.

Victoria: Oh Merlot, she can’t stay here.

Merlot: Please?! You’re the only chance we’ve got. She has no other family, and my aunt would come unglued if she knew.

Victoria: It’s a big risk.

Merlot: I know, but you gotta understand how miserable she was there. Trapped like a prisoner in her own house.

Victoria: I know all too well what that feels like.

Victoria: How would that be any different here? If her mother is searching, she’d have to hide.

Merlot: Here, she has us. It may not seem like it, but it’s different.

Victoria: I know I’m going to regret this.

Merlot: I’ll make sure you don’t.

Victoria: Very well, but if the police come knocking…

Merlot: Thank you, Vic. It means everything to me. To us.

Merlot: I should probably go check and see how she’s doing.

Victoria: Sure.

Merlot: Thank you again, Vic.

Victoria: That’s what family is for.

Vanilla: Listen well, boy. You have no right being here and it would serve you well to turn around and leave this very instant.

Merlot: I can’t do that.

Vanilla: You do not want to test me. I will make your life miserable.

Merlot: I’m not leaving her like this.

Vanilla: Very well, then I’m calling the police to report an intruder. Home invasion should get you a few months at least.

Chantilly Lace: But that’s a lie!

Chantilly Lace: Mother! Please leave him alone! I promise, I’ll do whatever you want, just let him go!

Merlot: How can you do this to your own daughter? Trapping her like a prisoner?

Vanilla: It’s none of your concern what I do with my child. Now leave and don’t ever come back.

Chantilly Lace: *sobbing*

Vanilla: She’s only sixteen, so that makes her mine. You won’t win this one. Don’t even try.

Merlot: *sigh*

Merlot: Lace…

Chantilly Lace: No.

Merlot: Lace, what choice do we have? Your mother’s right.

Chantilly Lace: I can’t do it. I can’t live without you!

Merlot: Just for a little while.

Chantilly Lace: Merlot, please, no!

Merlot: *voice cracks* Baby, I’m sorry. I wish I could take you away with me, but we’re just kids. I don’t have a job, or even my own car.

Vanilla: Listen to the boy, Lacey.

Chantilly Lace: This isn’t fair!

Chantilly Lace: If you leave, I’ll never see you again!

Merlot: That’s not true.

Chantilly Lace: You’ll move on with your life and you’ll forget about me.

Merlot: No way. I couldn’t if I tried. Lace, I promise, we will get through this… together. You just gotta hold on.

Chantilly Lace: Please don’t go.

Merlot: I love you.

Chantilly Lace: *broken sobs*

Prologue – Part 12

Chantilly Lace: I’m gonna stay right here.

Merlot: Lace…

Merlot: We’ll figure this out.

Chantilly Lace: Yeah.

Merlot: You just gotta hang in there.

Chantilly Lace: I know.

Merlot: Tomorrow night?

Chantilly Lace: It won’t come soon enough.

Merlot: Good night, Lace.

Chantilly Lace: Good night. Merlot.

Vanilla: You and I need to talk…

Vanilla: How long has this been going on?

Chantilly Lace: Huh?

Vanilla: Sneaking out?

Chantilly Lace: I wasn’t! I was in backyard watching the stars.

Vanilla: Don’t play dumb with me! I saw him, Lacey. Now, how long has this been going on?

Chantilly Lace: A few days…

Vanilla: Well it ends now.

Chantilly Lace: No.

Vanilla: Don’t argue with me. You know the rules and you will obey them or suffer the consequences.

Chantilly Lace: What else can you possibly do to me? I’m already a prisoner.

Vanilla: I’m not talking about you.

Chantilly Lace: Huh?

Vanilla: End it, or I will.

Chantilly Lace: What are you going to do to him?

Vanilla: That’s none of your concern, but it will be if you refuse to tell him it’s over.

Chantilly Lace: Please mother, don’t do this.

Vanilla: You are the one breaking the rules. This is not my doing.

Chantilly Lace: Then I’m leaving.

Vanilla: Just try it. I’ve changed your lock. It only unlocks from the outside now, so if you ever want to step outside your room again, you’ll do as I say.

Chantilly Lace: Please don’t do this to us.

Vanilla: Us?!  There is no us, Lacey! You hardly know this boy!

Chantilly Lace: I know that I love him.

Vanilla: Foolish girl. Boys his age only want one thing.

Chantilly Lace: Not him. It’s different.

Vanilla: Sure it is.

Prologue – Part 11

Victoria: Don’t mess this one up.

Merlot: I’m doing everything I can to keep that from happening.

Victoria: That was uncalled for, I’m sorry. Sometimes my father…

Merlot: It’s okay, Vic. You’re right. I have a terrible track record.

Chantilly Lace: So what did I miss.

Merlot: We were just talking about-

Victoria: My father! He will be up for parole again soon. Don’t see him getting it, but that doesn’t stop him from trying.

Chantilly Lace: That must be hard, being so fractured from your father.

Victoria: He’s not a good guy. Never was. Believe me, I’m much happier with him locked away… *awkward laugh*

*Silence*

*Even More Silence*

Merlot: We should probably get going. This one might turn into a pumpkin if we don’t get her home before sunrise.

Chantilly Lace: Yes, it is getting rather late.

Victoria: Understandable. Please come back and visit anytime.

Merlot: That went better than expected.

Chantilly Lace:

Merlot: All the time I wasted. I’m so glad you talked me into it. Thank you.

Chantilly Lace:

Merlot: Lace? You okay?

Chantilly Lace: I don’t want to go home yet.

Merlot: Oh… we don’t have to. Still got some time. Where would you like to go?

Chantilly Lace: Anywhere.

Merlot: I think I know a place.

Chantilly Lace: How on sweet earth did you find this place?

Merlot: Would you believe, I used dream about this place?

Chantilly Lace: Really? How magical.

Merlot: Victoria and I found it one night. Guessing it used to be an old cathedral, way out in the middle of nowhere. Not much left of it now, but someone has created this amazing place and hidden it away.

Chantilly Lace: It’s peaceful.

Merlot: Yeah.

Merlot: I have to confess, I brought you here for a reason.

Chantilly Lace: Oh?

Merlot: When I was a kid, I used to dream about this place almost every night, but I was never alone. There was a girl about my age and she seemed so real. I knew one day, we would meet *laughs* fall madly in love, and live happily ever after. I swore it was our destiny.

Chantilly Lace: You think she’s really out there? Waiting for you?

Merlot: I don’t think so. It was a fantasy. Made up by a lonely mind, but that’s not why I’m telling you this. I’m telling you this, because, well, the girl from my dream, she was what I always wanted, and you, you are what I need.

Chantilly Lace: I am?

Merlot: My life before you was empty. Your friendship means more to me than anything else in this world.

Chantilly Lace: What about Turq?

Merlot: Turq’s an idiot.

Chantilly Lace: *giggle*

Merlot: What I’m trying to say is, I’m really glad you walked into my life… or I guess I’m glad I walked into yours.

Chantilly Lace: I’m glad you walked into my life too.

Merlot: Lace?

Chantilly Lace: Yeah?

Merlot: Can I be your boy?

Chantilly Lace: Get over here, you cheese ball.

Merlot: So that’s a yes?

Chantilly Lace: Of course that’s a yes!

Merlot: There’s that look again. Lace, talk to me.

Chantilly Lace: Tasting freedom has only made things harder on me. I feel more trapped than I did before. I don’t want to go back but what choice do I have?

Merlot: One day, we’ll leave together. I’ll get a good job and we can find a little place. You can paint and-

Chantilly Lace: It’s what I’ll have to do in the meantime that saddens me.

Merlot: I’ll come see you whenever I can.

Chantilly Lace: We should probably go back now…

Prologue – Part 10

Merlot: I changed my mind. Let’s go back.

Chantilly Lace: We’re here now. You can do this. I’m right here with you.

Merlot: Okay… let’s do this.

Victoria: Oh look, it’s Merlot, and he’s brought another friend…

Victoria: What do you want?

Merlot:  Hey… Vic. I know you probably don’t want to see me, but I need to talk to you.

Victoria: ……..Go on.

Merlot:  Victoria, I don’t know what else to say but I’m sorry. I’m sorry for the mean things I said, and I’m sorry that I hurt you.

Victoria:

Chantilly Lace: *whispers* Keep going…

Merlot: I never should have said those awful things to you. They were horrible and hurtful and you didn’t deserve them. I miss you, Vic, so much. My family doesn’t feel the same with out you, and I know you hate me but-

Victoria: I don’t hate you.

Merlot: You don’t?

Victoria:  No. I wanted to, but I couldn’t. That’s not how family works.

Merlot: I don’t really deserve to be your family. Not after the way I treated you.

Victoria: That’s not how family works.

Merlot: No?

Victoria: There will always ups and downs, but family is never forgotten. Never.

Victoria: Would you like to come in?

Merlot: Oh, I don’t know if we should… Lacey has-

Chantilly Lace: Yes! We’d love to!

Merlot: I guess we can for a little while.

Victoria: I shall start some tea then.

Victoria: I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you around before.

Merlot: Not many have.

Chantilly Lace: I don’t get out much.

Victoria: My name is Victoria, but you probably already know that.

Chantilly Lace: I’m Chantilly Lace, but everyone calls me Lacey.

Victoria: Pleasure to meet you, Chantilly Lace.

Chantilly Lace: Can I use your bathroom? I’ve been holding it since Fondant Fields.

Victoria: Down the stairs. Follow the hallway to the last door.

Chantilly Lace: Thank you! I’ll be right back!

Victoria: New girl I see.

Merlot: Yeah.

Victoria: I’m surprised she is not pink.

Merlot: Oh yeah.. that.

Victoria: She seems very sweet.

Merlot: She’s amazing.

Victoria: You actually like this girl.

Merlot: I think she might be the one, Vic.

Victoria: No! But your pink princess.

Merlot: She was a fantasy. Lacey is real and so much more than I could have imagined. All I want is to be with her. We don’t even have to be doing anything but sitting there. I feel better when she is around.

Victoria: Sounds like love, but I’m no expert on the subject.
